Schotia Safaris is the oldest private game viewing reserve in the Eastern Cape, bordering the estern side of Addo Elephant Park.
This malaria free reserve is probably the most densely stocked reserve in Africa, and with over 40 mammal species and approximately 2000 animals, can offer consistently good game viewing throughout the year. Schotia was the first reserve in the Cape Province to have free roaming lions and we can almost guarantee sightings of these magnificent animals on every Tooth & Claw game drive.
The reserve is owned, managed and run 'hands on' by the owners, the Bean family, who are now in their sixth generation and have owned the original farm, Orlando, since the early 1800's. After nearly 25 years of experience in the safari business, Peter and his team have created a unique, relaxed and truly South African experience at Schotia.
Schotia has a huge open air lapa, reputedly among the largest in South Africa. It has reed and sneezewood walls and is open to the African skies, except for the outer ring where a traditionally thatched roof covers the dining tables and bar area. Inside the lapa there are several large 'Schotia' trees and a roaring log fire. Dinner is usually a mix of safari cuisine and traditional South African cooking; the exact menu depends on what is available on the day.
Just a short drive from Port Elizabeth, Addo or Grahamstown, don't miss the unique experience that is Schotia Safaris. |

The morning is spent searching for, and viewing elephants in an area containing the world's most dense elephant population. We eat a wholesome lunch at a local farmstall restaurant before returning to our reception area mid-afternoon, where we wave goodbye and you continue your holiday.
Reißzahn & Klaue
(4 hours guided safari with refreshments and african dinner at an open fire)
Schotia is a private game reserve and we can take our guests as close as possible to get the best viewing of rhino, hippo, giraffe and the king of the beasts, lion! We try to show our guests as much as possible on a drive and concentrate on the popular sightings rather than 'the birds and the bees'..
This is a four hour guided game drive in an open Land Rover with a short refreshments and toilet break at the halfway point. After an amazing experience where you will view more animals than you thought possible, enjoy a delicious dinner which is prepared over an open fire. A short, spotlit nightdrive providing the possibility of more nocturnal animals completes your experience as we return to our reception area.
